This Master's programme helps students to understand and analyse various phenomena related to the social and cultural life of urban society, and to intervene in plural, dynamic contexts in constant transformation. Focusing on migration and cultural diversity from an interdisciplinary approach, the disciplines of Social Anthropology and Social Work provide the main theoretical and methodological background to the programme.
Training is provided in a blended mode in three semesters (one and a half years) for a total of 90 ECTS credits. Classes are taught in four-hour sessions, Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays (afternoon). This Master's programme can be followed by the Doctoral Programme in Anthropology and Communication, which is offered jointly by the URV's Department of Anthropology, Philosophy and Social Work and the URV's Department of Communication Studies.
The MAUMIS Master's programme contains three potential specialisations: Urban Anthropology, Migration and Cultural Diversity, and Social Intervention.
The programme's areas of interest are urban social environments, migration, cultural diversity, and social intervention. The current context of economic recession with rising inequality and social exclusion requires trained professionals to analyse, plan and intervene in changing social settings.
The Master's is intended for students with previous training in disciplines in the humanities and social sciences (Anthropology, Social Work, Sociology, Political Science, Geography, History, Social Education, etc.) and those with backgrounds in architecture and urban planning who are interested in urban studies from a social and humanistic approach.
